Today’s learners are different than learners of the past. Many have grown up with computers at their fingertips; Internet access in their homes and schools. Smart phones and other connected hand-held devices are readily available to very young children. They become a tool for play, for work, for research. And they provide immediate access to the virtual world. Today’s learners crave educational opportunities that move at the pace their minds move.
Education should evolve to accommodate the needs of learners. We as educators cannot expect our learners to adapt to the way we teach. We need to adapt instruction to the way the learners of today learn. We need to deliver instruction to their handheld devices. We need to develop engaging learning experiences that allow students to solve real-world problems. We need to allow the learners to mold projects to fit their interests… to CHOOSE their learning experience… to take OWNERSHIP of their learning… using their VOICE to ensure AUTHENTICITY of learning.
